The clip was recently uploaded to YouTube by the guy involved in the crash and after you watch it, you’ll be shocked to learn that he walked away without any serious injuries.
The car involved in the crash is a

as it was cruising down a highway in the United States. However, an inattentive truck driver behind the compact sports car rammed straight into the rear of the BRZ, sending the Subaru careening towards a crash barrier on the side of the highway.

why would i be surprised? it’s a relatively new- ish car with new- ish safety standards built in to protect passengers and the crash barriers are designed for impacts.

it had the potential to be worse than you might think, if that guard rail end center-punched the car between the subframe rails.

Or it was one of the millions that the manufacturer knew was unsafe, not up to spec, could and would kill motorists in accidents, shipped anyways, made millions off of, and continues to get away with.
No, I’m not joking.
And yes, that is exactly the kind of barrier he hit.

Newer cars are so much safer. I walked away from this without injury (sore as a mug for a week). This was an almost head on crash at about 45-50 mph. Look at the A pillar.

Best way to increase the BRZ’s 40-60 time?

Well at least the airlift was right there if he needed it. Those guys need to practice medical evacs right?

Yep, this is very bad :
And this is exactly the sort of crash where it could happen (doubly bad since these end pieces were supposed to be preventing these sorts of failures.)

And they did. Until the manufacturer redesigned them without disclosing it to the customers. Why did they redesign them? To slash costs despite knowing the revision was completely unsafe .

When the end pieces are designed CORRECTLY:

Yep it’s pretty cool to see them when they work correctly.
